Gnorman is one of the oldest of my long term characters. There were other characters before Gnorman that I played, but none ever really stuck in my memory more. There was a previous character who was an Elven Fighter, Illusionist, Magic User who rode with The Black Company, a party of extremely lawful good characters. Of course in that campaign the character's names were our own so mine was named Darrell. I played him perhaps even longer than Gnorman and perhaps I shall write him up in future. I'll give that Elf the name Lerrad of the Black Company. But my favorite is Gnorman.

Gnorman tends to be full of humour and cheer, he has in the past tended to practical jokes as only a master of illusions can creat them. He also is a showman and story teller. Often he'll illustrate his stories with illusion. One of his earlier goals in life was to gather fantastic and rare creatures to form a zoo or preserve. In the mean time he has become a traveller seeking out new worlds and perhaps new creatures. Whether he still seeks to capture them is not known.

Gnorman is known to be more than what meets the eye. Cunningly hidden beneath his robes and pointed hat is armour and a helmet for he is a skilled combatant as well. His bladed staff is as comfortable in his hand as any wand. His weapon of choice is a hollow metal staff with a socket for a blade on one end. This socket most often holds a magical sword though might hold an axe head or hammer. Hollow the staff provides Gnorman with his ranged weapon, the blowgun. Gnorman is known to have many personally designed darts of magical and natural composition. Many of the darts are ceramic or bone and shatter upons striking a hard surface delivering powders or ignitable substances which he has loaded them with. He rarely will use poison, but would if there was need. In advance he will prepare packets of sand or powder with spells of light or dark. When placed withing a dart their magic is hidden, but when they shatter the contents spill out releasing their magic either lighting or blinding through dark or light. It can also be difficult to hide when covered in a layer of brightly glowing flour.

Gnorman was one of the earliest to discover the healing ability of a well placed illusion. Many have been healed by an odd Cleric who wanders the worlds never far from Gnorman always with his own small dark cloud overhead.

Gnorman is known to travel in the company of a talking horse and a number of intelligent talking pigeons or doves. He has also travelled with a cleric of odd origins, said to be the son of a  halfling and an orc. This cleric, Karak is said to posess the strength of giants while he is less than half the height of a man.

Gnorman once travelled to a strange world and discovered a magic that he has mastered. Something he calls a graphically programmed illusion.

Gnorman is also a highly skilled artist equally competent with paint, pen, or clay. He says, "It goes with the territory."

Gnorman was originally created in first edition Advanced Dungeons & Dragons. Later he has become somewhat unglued from the gaming universe and become more a literary charcter often called Belgnorman.
