I run deeper into the cave while barking. <---- St Bernard I will follow the dog Perhaps it would be better if we follow the dog's example Grendel runs back into the cave barking :) It definitely feels warmer to the back of the cave. Before the entrance was covered by the slide there was a warm breeze coming from the back of the cave.\ There is a faint glow from growths on the rocks that get brighter the deeper you go in. I will continue on following the dog It is the same bluish growth noted last game that comes from the very sandstonelike pores in the rock. I folow the dog and everyone else Woof wooof woof he St Bernard runs on ahead barking. You feel like you're entering a large chamber. There are drafts of warm air and the smell of plant life. Not quite so strong as if it were a swamp or a bog in the summer. Perhaps a bog in the spring? Do we have a source of light other than the cave walls? I am going to stop briefly to see if I can get a look around. The glowing plant growth in the ceiling no longer seems bluish. It seems further away and almost like clouds in the night sky. It's pretty dark still. The walls aren't in sight Hmmmm....... What is the ground like? The grown appears to be covered with very low heather and bunches/tussoks of grass grown with a "d" Ground I turn back to see if I can still find the cave Maurius proclaims. I DONT THINK WE ARE IN HAVNE ANY MORE If you walk back far enough you will come across an unbroken hedge of 1 foot high mushrooms No kidding!!! What is a Havane? Havne is the name of the continent. The Barking sounds a fair distance away, and not echoing like in a cave. There is the sound of wind through grass and brush Can I tell where our footprints first start on the ground or is it too dark? ou notice it is getting lighter in one direction, at first bluish, but then blushing pink. The ground is definitely covered now with plant growth. Heathers and tussocks of grass. Umm, Your footprints begin just about the same place you started to walk back toward where you thought the cave might be. I am going to try to take a look around towards the growing light a little way. You note the patches of light above are now paling and have patches of darkness.... there are stars in the darkness. If sought the patterns of the stars are the same as at home. I say we stay here and wait for dawn. It appears to be day dawning The St Bernhard returns with a large rabbit in its jaws. It brings it to Marius I want to wait for full light before we start exploring Well, at least we have breakfast. You note that there is a wide circle of mushrooms around where you find yourselves The circle is around 200 feet across. Fairly normal looking mushrooms though the caps are red with blue spots. The rabbit you notice has a broken wing. Somehow I don't think the rabbit will notice Ummmm.....when do rabbits have wings? Marius says, I THINK WE SHOULD GIVE THANKS FOR THE RABBIT! Is the rabbit safe to eat? Yeah, you do that. Well, we might as well eat the silly thing. * Moon-Shadow looks around for enough brush to start a fire. The mushrooms are only about 1 foot high at maximum. But you'll have to take a big step to avoid breaking any when crossing them. I will avoid breaking them as I step over Does anyone have a preference as to what direction we want to go? I'm just the guide. What direction were you heading in the first place? Can we see anything in the distance Marius will tuck the rabbit through his rope belt for now. Mountain? There are very low, rolling hills covered in heather and grass. The ring of mushrooms seems to be an exception. Hey! Don't look at me! I was minding my own buisness on a nice summers day, then got sent into the deep freeze. Any constructions other than the ring of mushrooms The Sun rises in the East doesn't it? We were headed South West in general before the avalanche? Any obvious paths? Nothing in sight. Just endless fields of heather and grass. Though now there are insects and birds occasionally to be seen flying about. That and the Sun that has definitely risen The vegitation is a bit bluish and the sky a touch greenish. Also the Sun is a touch greenish Any significant land marks. I suggest we climb to the top of one of the hills and see if we can spot anything...... Perhaps the odd trail where rabbits might travel a bit more often than not. The hills really are not that high and as a matter of fact the centre of the ring was at or near the top of a low hill. Any one remember when the sun turned green? The only sorta landmarks would be the ring and the sun. The sun was not green the last time I saw it. Might as well head towards the rising sun...it is as good a direction as any. Did the dog hit a mushroom when he rushed off after the rabbit I have heard that from the west coast, very occasionally there will be a green flash as the sun sets. Perhaps we are west of west? Nope I leaped clean clear over it both ways! Perhaps we should damage a mushroom and see if anything happens. Besides getting hit withe the spoors? Why not continue soutwest and maybe things might go back to normal? If this is the only landmark I dont think we should leave. This may be the only gate in or out of this place. Maybe we can figure out how to work it. Assuming it isn't one way only. There are small patches of twigs where heather plants have in the past died. They might make for a meager fire fairly quickly. * Moon-Shadow begins to gather what firewood is possible. It will take around half an hour to gather enough for a smallish fire enough to toast a rabbit. Do we see anyother creatures bigger than insects There are some small birds I will help gather fire wood Are they bigger than the flying rabbit or smaller Woof I will look into birding! Okay, I will take the time to help gather the wood, then will set up to start a fire. They looks smaller. Not larger than crow, probably smaller. Robin sized Vern catches a birdy and brings it back. It is the largest most succulent the St Bernard could find. Strangely, the blue breasted robin has butterfly wings like a monarch butterfly, but with blue where the orange would be. Is the day progressing faster than expected. i.e. is the sun moving across the sky faster than normal * Moon-Shadow gets the fire going. Actually it is approaching noon already..... perhaps an hour might have passed since you found yourself surrounded by the ring of mushrooms The fire burns very fast, and very hot. But the rabbit cooks through quickly and evenly. So we can expect nightfall shortly? Hmmm.....Dawn to Noon in One Hour Perhaps 2 Let's eat then see what we can work out. Grendal is used to large variations in the length of a day.... but this is rediculous I think we should wait here for at least two more dawns and see if anyone comes or goes Is the sun high like the summer sun or low like the winter sun Meanwhile, if Vernard does not mind, he can hunt for our food....we should see about building some shelters as well. Perhaps we should restrain Vernard? Perhaps all might not be what they seem. The bird and the rabbit seem a bit fairylike to me. Maybe, but what else do you have an idea to use for food? I would encourage others to leave the ring I think we should stay in the area but outside the ring The wings on the bird don't have much meat, but the rest is succulent and cooks as well as the rabbit did. The meat of both have a hint of a mint taste. * Moon-Shadow sighs, picks up the cooked rabbit and bird, extinugishes the fire and leaves the ring of Mushrooms. Sigh... too cloudy to really see the eclipse tonight Yeah, I know. We could dig a den? It is on a little late for me to stay up but it would be nice to see. Any body got a shovel? Is it muggy Toasty to grendal, but say 55F and not muggy. Very springlike and fresh, though not chilly at all when you have been used to winter snows. The wind also is dropping. I think we will not need shelter tonight ...and the sun has not noticably dropped for the past while. * Moon-Shadow builds another small fire outside of the Mushroom Ring and wraps up in her blaket. I hope we will not be here long enough to need a permanent shelter. It'll take another half hour at least to get enough twigs for a fire like the last one. I will go looking for more wood then. It would take alot of rabbits to make a tent with in any case. It still would take at least half an hour to gather the twigs. Any tracks of bigger game Yep, you said that. That is why I said I would go looking for and gather the wood for the fire. I will use the remaining light to search for traces of previous inhabitants You find signs of more rabbits about. Though the heather is tall enough to obscure them from sight if they are about. The sun seems to be helping with the light as it climbs back to noon height. What the hey?! A bird about the size of a crow is flying backwards overhead... it appears perhaps to be two birds for there are 4 wings involved and a long tail.... Now that is something you don't see every day. BTW the bird was not within arm's reach but at least 40 feet up. I am going to walk all the way around the mushroom ring on the outside and see if being on a specific side affects anything The bird starts to retrace it's steps.... flaps.... er.... and flies the way it came, four winged is forewarned after all. While gathering wood, do I see anything else that might be construed as strange or threatening? Things seem pretty normal to you. Though when you reach the other side it looks like Moonshadow is walking backwards and putting twigs on the ground carefully, one at a time. ...and I won't mention what Vern is doing squatting a short distance away from the other party members. roflmao When I get back to the others I ask them if they noticed anything strange about me I wonder if things would be more normal near the centre of the circle or a distance away from it? ...well, everything seemed normal with grendal while he was walking backwards carefully around the ring. He seemed to get turned the right way round by the time he returned however. is praying for guidance in the matter. Once I have enough wood for a nice fire, I will return to the groupl. *group Did I go all the way around the ring in the same direction i.e. clockwise or did I wind up coming back the way I came. BTW the sun had returned to it's original path across the sky and is heading towards dusk. How far back to noon did it make it before resuming its course? Grendal seemed to make the entire circuit travelling clockwise around the circle. It made it close to noon before returning. Perhaps it is an hour before dusk now. ...it is a little confusing, though your internal clocks are better set than most people from our world. Clocks are rare so internal timing is depended on more often. This is very bizarre. I bet this is the work of that wizard Grizelda When I get back to the group, I will set the wood down and begin making the fire. up. We were travelling with her when the avalanche hit. So, why would she bother putting you in a wierd world then? I was always suspicious of her Grizelda said she was hunting an evil magic user who could swap bodies with innocent victims at will. Perhaps Grizelda is responsible for the avalanche in the first place? When we were questioning a bad guy last winter he exploded and I have been leary of wizards ever since. Wimper Woof!? Wouldn't it make more sense for her to keep her in her party so that she could find the person she was looking for? You don't see that happen every day either. I think Grizelda could have trapped us here to get us out of her way so she could use us later. Maybe she was the shape change and was just using us to escape from the real pursuer I think things have gotten weirder since we have been near the perimeter of the circle. We also entered through somewhere near the centre of the circle. If she got caught in that Avalance, I don't think she would have had the time to put you here. Nor could she have known about, let alone brought ME along. THAT IS AN INTERESTING, IF NOT PARANOID THOUGHT... The center is probably the center of the magic which is why I want to stay away from it. I will be less noticeable lying down How bright are the mushrooms Grendel notes the fleeting shadow of a figure pass through the centtre of the ring. It is sillouetted by the mushrooms on the far side, though you notice not how it entered or exited the ring. Does it approach the group in the middle? grendal likely could not read by the light of the mushrooms. But perhaps Emalda could since Emalda is literate. I thought the group in the ring were not at the middle rather were just inside? Right. I never said I was going to be in the middle of it, just inside the ring. Emalda is likeways just inside the ring, not at the centre. Can I tell what type of figure it si Hard to tell. It was only the silouette of a figure, but it appeared to have the correct amount of heads, arms, legs, wings and bodies to be human. (1, 2, 2, 0, and 1) Was it tall like a man or short like a troll kin It was a bit stockier than most, but not obtrusively could it have been Grizelda Height would be difficult to know for sure from a low angle of sight. (ie Grendal was keeping low I believe so any being would likely seem to be higher in stature than grendal's point of observation. also the centre is at the top of the hill.... though only perhaps 2 feet above the height of the ring. ) Is that how you spell siloette? silhuette? Okay, shadow/outline lol The night continues with cloudlike forms blowing gently overhead from the horizon. Still there are patches of stars visible. It is not in my dictionary? !?!?! After a while, I will put my dagger away and curl up in my blanket and go to sleep. It is a word like lieutentant. Hard to find in a dictionary if you don't already know the correct way to spell it. Do the shapes overhead look like clouds or spirits There were no clouds all day were there They look like.... clouds. Just thick enough to obscure stars and lit from below. Is there a moon? They might have been thin enough to not be noticable in the light of day, or perhaps they only formed when the night air cooled, or perhaps blew in from somewhere. There is no apparrent moon.
