Heraldic Designs
The images on this page are graphics I have done of heraldic designs I have found useful as a member of the Barony of Lions Gate in the Principality of Tir Righ of the Kingdom of An Tir. I am not the person responsible for designing the heraldic items, with the exception of my own Arms and Badge. I am responsible for these depictions that are inspired by the the heraldic designs they represent.
The images may be found further down the page. At the moment there are not many images listed. I will add more as I find time to complete them. I am making available GIF files of the graphics with transparent backgrounds. They do represent a time commitment on my part to create so I would appreciate credit for the images and that you seek my permission if you would intend to use them other than for personal usage or if you wish to use them for commercial purpose. The original graphics I am doing as scalable graphic files. I can make available these files in Paint Brush Pro 7 PSP format files if requested.
Heraldic Display
Some important notes on proper Heraldic Display.
Arms, Coats of Arms, and Achievements are intended only for display by the person they are registered to. Even then this display is essentially to say the bearer "is here". To the "purist" the bearer should not fly their arms from their home or encampment unless they are currently there. For this reason the "purist" would not apply their arms to their possessions. Instead they would make use of their personal badge. They would place their badge on their processions and would allow their followers and retainers to wear the badge to indicate their allegiance. Badges may also be used as rallying flags or to indicate a dwelling is theirs when they are not currently in residence.
The Arms of Branches also should not be used by the members of those branches except for the leaders of those branches whether Crown, Coronet, or Baron and Baroness. Branches normally have what are called Populus Badges which members of those branches may use to indicate membership.
There may also be other badges for other purposes.
There are different schools of thought on the use of Heraldic Display on Web Pages:
In the more stringent, the only place where the Arms, Device, or Achievement should be used is on the actual home page or page representing that person, group, or branch. Otherwise only the badge if available should be used.
A slightly less stringent view is that a link to the official web page representing the person, group, or branch may be indicated using the Arms, or Device. Otherwise the badge should be used. This is based on the concept of using the arms of a city or country to represent or mark it on a map. The arms would indicate the bearer could be found there.
Another view is that if the image represents the person, group, or branch, then the arms or device can be used. If the image indicates membership or possession, then the badge should be used.
Definitely it is considered wrong to indicate membership in a person, group, or branch by using the arms or device.
Remember that members of a Branch can display the populus badge of that group to show that they are members of that badge. Such badges would provide interesting additions to projects, and such and could be proudly displayed
